When you're down and lonely and need some love and care, memes will be here. If there's been one consistency throughout my whole life, it's that I've turned to memes in rough moments. When I was in middle school, I would look at them while riding the bus, dreading the day ahead, listening to my Pandora station. Those memes made the day go by a little bit quicker.

As an adult, I relish every time one of my friends sends me a meme that made them think of me. It's one of the highest forms of love languages. When something big happens in the news, what do we run to but memes? We need a way to digest what's happening in the world around us, and a funny little image is a great way to do that. They bring us together, they make us laugh, and they help us memorize important moments.
